Activities will range from the Easter egg hunt to board games and lunch
In just a couple of weeks kids will be on spring break looking for something to do. The West Side Recreation and Park District has several ideas from April 12-18.
The activities will kick off Saturday, April 12 with the Easter Egg Hunt at A Street Park. The hunt, which is free, is open to kids between the ages of 2-8 and will begin at 10 a.m. Kids are to bring a basket and show up at least 15 minutes before the start of the hunt. Kids will get to collect candy, plastic eggs and prizes in two different age groups. The Easter bunny will also be there.
A day later, the Rec will host a barbecue lunch and movie from 11:30 a.m.-1:15 p.m. at the Community Center Assembly Room. There will be barbecued hot dogs, chips and drinks. The movie Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 will be shown. The cost is $3 and is open to kids in kindergarten and older.
On Tuesday, the Rec will hold Sidewalk Chalk Art from 10-11 a.m. All young artists and creative minds, three and up, are invited to come and leave their mark on the sidewalk.
Later in the day Tuesday, the Rec will hold Candy Bar Bingo at the Community Center Assembly Room. The activity, which is free, will run from 2-3 p.m. and is open to those one year and older.
On Wednesday, the Rec will offer Kids Fun Day from a 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Community Center Assembly Room. Kids will have the chance to play games, do crafts, eat a pizza lunch, snacks and more. The cost is $6 per person and is open to those from kindergarten to the sixth grade.
The following day, the Rec will offer Tie Dye T-Shirts at the Community Center Activity Building. Bring a new, washed 100 percent cotton t-shirt and you will be able to tie dye it with some cool colors. Kids are encouraged to wear old clothes to work in. Pre-registration is required and space is limited. The activity will last from 1:30-3 p.m. and is open to kids from the second grade up. The cost is $5 per person. The registration deadline is Wednesday, April 16.
The final activity of spring break will take place Friday with board games and lunch at the Community Center Assembly Room. Bring a sack lunch along for the lunch break. The activity will last from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and is open to kids from kindergarten on up. The activity is free.
