Bakersfield man served one day, fined for accident that killed man, critically injured boy
The man charged with causing the fatal motorcycle crash in 2013 that killed a Taft man and severely injured the man's 12-year-old son pleaded no contest to one misdemeanor count of vehicular manslaughter Wednesday.
Chad Michael Harrelson, 36, of Bakersfield was sentenced to one day of time already served, fined $220 and placed on 3 years probation, Kern County Superior Court records show.
An additional charge, making an illegal left turn, was dismissed.
Harrelson was the driver of a truck that was making a left turn from Highway 33 onto Wood Street and into the path of a motorcycle driven by Robert Mansell.
The crash killed Mansell and left his son, Nick, with severe injuries.
Nick Mansell lost his left leg in the crash but is recovering.
