  • Whether it has been the non-league season or the opening games of the league season, the Taft varsity softball team has been consistent when it has come to wins. The Lady Wildcats continued their run in Wasco Friday afternoon with a 14-2 victory over the Lady Tigers.
“The girls came out and played very well,” said Taft coach Russell Emberson. “Our bats showed up today and we hit very well. We ran the bases aggressively and made things happen on the bases.”
With the victory, Taft keeps their perfect run going at 17-0 overall and 3-0 in the South Sequoia League.
Taft burst out of the gates with six runs in the second and third innings. Olivia Ortlieb had one of the highlights in the second inning with a run scoring triple while Caitlyn Emberson followed with a three run home run. Before those four runs, Taft scored an additional two runs on a throwing error.
In the third inning, Neher drove in one of the runs with a run scoring single before Haylee Tracy followed with a three run home run. Cassidy Cloud scored another run on an error while Makenzie Thornsberry scored another run on a double steal.
Taft capped their outburst with two runs in the fourth. After Johanna Wilke walked and Neher doubled, Ortlieb and Tracy hit back-to-back groundouts to score the two runners.
