Taft sweeps Golden Valley in doubleheader
There was a point in early in the season where the Taft varsity baseball team had a tough time stringing together wins. One could say the Wildcats have found their groove after defeating the Golden Valley Bulldogs twice in Taft Tuesday.
Taft opened the doubleheader with a come behind 4-3 victory over the Bulldogs.
Golden Valley nearly got on the scoreboard first in the top of the second inning with a leadoff walk, a sacrifice bunt and a groundout but the final batter grounded out to end the threat.
Golden Valley did break through one inning later with a lead off double, a ground out and a sacrifice fly to lead 1-0. The Bulldogs would double their lead in the fourth on a single, a ground out and another single.
Meanwhile, Taft was unable to get a hit through the opening two innings of the game and had trouble getting a rally going until the bottom of the fifth inning. Following a one out single, Austin Pendergrass launched a shot over the left field fence to tie the game.
After Golden Valley regained the lead in the top of the seventh, Taft bounced back to score two runs on only one hit.
The Wildcats completed the sweep by winning the second game 4-1.
Unlike the first game, Taft did all of their scoring in the first two innings with two runs in the first and two in the second. Except for the fourth inning, the Wildcats would not have another threat the rest of the evening.
Golden Valley was unable to get anything going until the sixth inning when they got runners to second and third. However, it would be the seventh inning before they broke through with their lone run of the game.
