  • The annual Taft Rotary Club Health Fair is coming back on April 26 with low cost medical testing, free consultations with a variety of medical specialists.
The big event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at Buena Vista High School (right across the street from the Historic Fort on the 900 block of Tenth Street).
Last year's event drew more than 600 people to take advantage of the medical screenings and meet with doctors.
Taft's health fair is unique because of the free consultations, Tang said.
Other health fairs offer only exhibits and some screenings.
    Admission is also free.
This is very, very helpful to people,” said Tang. “These are things they can't get anywhere else. The prices we offer, they can't get anywhere else.”
The low-cost blood tests were so popular last year that people were arriving before the testing started at 8 a.m.
More than 60 people had tests done, said Dr. Vibul Tang, the health fair's director.
There were also 16 preschool dental exams done and 27 children received immunizations through First 5 K.
There were 12 medical doctors at the health fair, plus a dentist, chiropractor, and doctor of audiology.
Bakersfield College nursing students performed blood pressure checks.
In addition, there were 13 vendors.
The event offers unique opportunities for free consultations with a wide variety of medical specialists and it can make a big difference.
Dermatologist Dr. Victor Constantine diagnosed a case of skin cancer at the health fair, enabling the person to make arrangements to have a malignant growth removed.
