Roselyn Maino throws no hitter

The Taft freshmen softball team kept their perfect run in tact Tuesday afternoon when they handed the Shafter Generals a 16-1 victory in Shafter.

“Their pitching was slower than we were used to so it was good that the girls were able to adjust,” said Taft coach Michelle Gerry. “We had some really great base running and were able to get a lot of players in the game.”

With the victory, Taft improves to 14-0 overall and 4-0 in the South Sequoia League.

Roselyn Maino, Madison Borrecco and Christina Warner each were 3-for-3 with Borrecco and Warner each scoring three times while Maino scored twice. Maino and Borrecco each had two triples, a single and four runs batted in while Warner had two singles, a triple and two runs batted in.

Caitlyn Brown was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, two singles and two runs batted in.

On the pitching side, Maino improved her record to 11-0 by throwing five innings allowing two walks and a run while throwing a no hitter. Maino also struck out 10 batters.

“It was a great win  because we are now undefeated in league,” said Gerry.

The only downside of the day for the team was that this was their last game until April 25 when they take on Robert F. Kennedy at home.

The game begins at 4 p.m.
