  • The Taft boys golf team closed out their regular league tournament schedule Thursday afternoon in a familiar place when they came in second at Riverlakes Golf Course in Bakersfield.
“The last few weeks it has been fairly tight race between second and fourth,” said Taft coach Mike Goodwin. “Riverlakes is a tough course with the large amount of water and out of bounds on every hole.”
As a team, the Wildcats finished with a round of 478. Bakersfield Christian was first with a score of 433. Cesar Chavez followed Taft by shooting a 534. Shafter followed with a round of 544.
Individually, Tanner Leikam led the Wildcats in scoring with an 80.
“Tanner Leikam played well today,” said Goodwin.
Harrison Sorensen followed with an 89 while Jacob Lopez was third in scoring with a 96. Colby Stuck chipped in with a 104 while Triston Ginn had a 109. Marcus Grossbard rounded out the scoring with a 110.
“The last few weeks we have been playing better golf but with some rules changes and tougher courses our score has not shown the improvement,” said Goodwin.
Taft is still in second place in the standings with 70 points. Bakersfield Christian is first with 84 while Cesar Chavez is third with 48.
The Wildcats are off until Thursday, April 24 when they compete in the South Sequoia League championship at Buena Vista Golf Course. The match starts at 11 a.m.
