Wildcats defeat Caruthers and Washington Union
The Taft varsity baseball team may be taking a break from the league schedule but that doesn’t mean they are slowing down after the Wildcats kicked off the first day of the Selma Easter Tournament Saturday with a pair of wins.
With the two wins, Taft improves to 13-8 overall.
Taft faced a nail biter in their first game when they edged out Caruthers 3-2.
Danny Romo threw five innings allowing two earned runs while striking out six batters. Will Moore got the save. Zack Brown had two runs batted in.
The Wildcats had an easier time in the second game by blowing past Washington Union 10-0.
Scoring was absent until the fourth inning when Taft erupted for six runs. The Wildcats followed up with a run in the fifth inning before adding three more in the sixth inning.
Matt Osborn threw five innings allowing no hits and two walks while striking out four batters. Romo had a triple and three runs batted in while Moore had two runs batted in.
Austin Pendergrass and Kyle Adkins each were 2-for-3 with Pendergrass knocking in a run while Adkins had two runs batted in.
The Wildcats continue their tournament through Tuesday.
