Emmanuel Martines will be sentenced in June. One count dismissed in deal struck just before trial date
A Taft man arrested in November 2013 on child molestation charges will be sentenced on June 3 after he pleaded no contest to one count of committing lewd acts with a minor just before he was scheduled to go on trial.
Emmanuel Diaz Martines, 21, had been scheduled to go on trial on Monday but entered the plea and a second lewd conduct charge was dismissed.
Martines will be sentenced on June 3.
He is being held on $75,000 bond in the Kern County Sheriff's Lerdo pretrial facility.
Martines was arrested by Kern County Sheriff's deputies on Nov. 12 after a Taft Police school resource officer found a 12-year-old Taft girl was the victim of child molestation.
Martines met the girl through social media on the internet, Sheriff's investigators said.
