Business owner takes seat vacated by Carolyn Hosking's resignation

Manny Campos has been appointed to the West Kern Community College District Board.

Campos, a Taft businessman who is also a member of the Taft District Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, will fill the vacancy left by the resignation of longtime trustee Carolyn Hosking.

Campos' appointment was announced Tuesday.

Hosking's resignation becomes effective May 15.

“Manny’s experiences in the Taft educational system, along with his hard work and motivation propelled him to success in business and the community,” said WKCCD Board President Billy White.”He is an inspiration to the students in Taft.”

He owns and managed Monarch Fleet Services & Automotive Repair Shop in Taft.

Campos is a graduate of Taft Union High School and UC Berkley where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration

Campos was employed by The GEO Group Inc. in progressively increasing levels of management positions in various locations in California, Texas and Arizona. Ultimately he managed budgets in excess of $250 million and a staff of 500 employees.

GEO formerly operated the Taft Correctional Institution under contract to the federal Bureau of Prisons.

Campos is married and the father of four children.

“I am very pleased to be selected as a member of the Board of Trustees where I can share my passion for the future of the College and the community of Taft as a whole,” he said.

Campos term expires at the end of 2014 and he will have to run for election to a four-year term in the November 4 general election.
