Bakersfield Christian scores run in extra innings to win
The Taft varsity baseball team’s first game back from break turned out to be a dramatic, extra innings pitching duel. It also ended in heartbreak for the Wildcats after the Bakersfield Christian won 3-2 in nine innings in Bakersfield Tuesday afternoon.
With the loss, Taft falls to 14-10 overall, 5-2 in the South Sequoia League and a first place tie with Cesar Chavez.
Neither team was able to break through until the top of the fifth inning when the Wildcats scored a run. Bakersfield Christian countered with two in their half of the fifth inning. The score remained the same until Taft, in their final at bat, scored a run to send the game into extra innings.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Eagles broke through to win the game.
Zack Brown had a double in the game while the team had seven hits. Danny Romo and Alex Guzman each had a run batted in.
Will Moore threw eight innings allowing zero earned runs on six hits and three walks. Moore also struck out 11 batters.
Taft will look to get back into the win column Friday when they travel up to Delano to face Robert F. Kennedy. The game begins at 4 p.m.
