Leikam, Sorensen advance to Area
The Taft boys golf team finished the season the way they started it by finishing second in the South Sequoia League championships at Buena Vista Golf Course last Thursday afternoon.
As a team, the Wildcats finished with a round of 477.
Bakersfield Christian was first with a score of 425 while Shafter was third with a 499. Cesar Chavez was fourth with a 524 while Arvin had a total of 572.
Individually, Tanner Leikam and Harrison Sorensen each had the lowest round of the day for Taft with an 84. Both finished fourth but due to the SSL card off Leikam was fourth while Sorensen was sixth.
As a result of their scores, both will advance to the Area meet Tuesday at Sundale Country Club in Bakersfield.
Lopez followed with the third best score for Taft with a 96. Jacob Lopez followed with a 105 while Taari Morgan was three strokes back with a 108. Triston Ginn chipped in with a 130.
Leikam had the fourth lowest season average while Sorensen was one spot back. Lopez was tenth.
In the overall standings, Taft was second with 90 points. Bakersfield Christian was first with 100 points.
Cesar Chavez was third with 60 points. Out of the teams in the league only Bakersfield Christian will be advancing as a team to the Area meet.
Despite the team season coming to an end Taft coach Mike Goodwin liked how the season went.
“Overall it was a great year with the team,” he said. “The guys worked hard and were extremely consistent all season.”
