Boys defeat Wasco while girls lose to Wasco
It was the final meet of the regular season not to mention the second to last one at home for the Taft boys and girls swim teams. By the end of the meet, the Wildcats came away with mixed results with the boys defeating Wasco while the girls lost to the Lady Tigers.
“We had a great, competitive meet yesterday,” said Taft coach John Usrey. “Wasco gave us some great races. Due to the boys hard work, we prevailed.”
As a team, Taft defeated the Tigers 99-80.
Individually, the Wildcats won seven of the races with Winfrey leading the charge by winning three races.
Jacob Winfrey won the 200 meter IM in a time of 2:21.28, the 100 butterfly in a time of 1:03.40 while teaming up with Joseph Michalski, San Barnes and Wyatt Huckins to win the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:51.77.
Connor Barton followed by winning two races. The first came in the 500 meter freestyle with a time of 2:21.28 while the second one was in the 100 meter breaststroke where he finished with a time of 1:15.20.
Huckins won the 50 meter freestyle in a time of 24.99 while Michalski finished first in the 100 meter backstroke with a time of 1:06.32.
Taft nearly won the 400 meter freestyle relay but Wasco edged out Winfrey, Barnes, Michalski and Huckins with a time of 3:45.11 to 3:45.75.
Barnes led the way with second place results. Along with the second place finish in the relay, he also finished second in the 200 meter freestyle with a time of 2:04.82. Barnes was second in the 100 meter butterfly with a time of 2:04.82.
Brett Usrey won the diving competition with a score of 124.70 while Gilmore was second with a total of 110.40.
The Lady Wildcats were not as fortunate with Wasco edging out Taft 94-86.
Ruby Stith led the way by winning the 500 freestyle and the 200 meter freestyle with respective times of 6:27.10 and 2:28.68. Tally Chavez won the other race for Taft by finishing first in the 50 meter freestyle with a time of 30.04.
Kayleanna Fowler won the diving competition with a score of 104.15 while Destany Rocha was second with a total of 99.40.
Victoria May led the charge when it came to second place results. Individually, May came in second in the 100 meter butterfly and the 100 breaststroke with times of 1:26.15 and 1:29.52. In the relay events, May teamed up with Reilly, Stith and Chavez to finish second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:26.42. May also joined forces with Reilly, Stith and Chavez to come in second in the 200 meter freestyle relay with a time of 2:04.03.
Taft returns to action Thursday when they host the South Sequoia League championship. Diving begins at 10 while the swimming starts at 2 p.m.
