Deputies recover stolen items, return them to owners

A Taft man was arrested on burglary charges after a two-week investigation into three burglaries in the area.

Michael Koontz, 42, was arrested by Kern County Sheriff's deputies on April 30.

He is currently being held without bail in the Sheriff's central receiving facility on two counts of first degree burglary and a no-bail hold for violating post release supervision

Senior Deputy Stephen Wells said the investigation revealed that Koontz had been in or near three homes that had been burglarized.

Koontz was on probation and a search of his home led to the discovery of “numerous items of stolen property” that was recovered and returned to the victims of the burglaries.

Koontz is due in court on Friday.
