Taft defeats Cesar Chavez in close game
The Taft varsity baseball team was able to celebrate a bit Tuesday afternoon when they handed Cesar Chavez a 3-1 loss in Delano to capture a share of the South Sequoia League title.
Taft improves to 9-2 in league play with only one game remaining.
Scoring was hard to come by in the game with Taft putting up single runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings. Meanwhile, the Titans scored their lone run in the last half of the seventh inning.
Danny Romo led the charge on offense by going 2-for-3 in the game.
The result was different a day earlier when the Wildcats handed Robert F. Kennedy a 34-2 loss in a makeup game in Delano. Austin Pendergrass was 4-for-6 with five runs scored and three runs batted in.
Taft closes out their regular season Friday when they travel up to Shafter. The game begins at 4 p.m.
