Taft pulls away to defeat Cesar Chavez 11-1

After a tense early game battle in Delano Tuesday afternoon, the Taft varsity softball team caught fire to defeat the Cesar Chavez Titans 11-1 to win their third straight South Sequoia League title.

Scoring was scarce with the only run in the first two innings of the game coming one Haylee Tracy's one out home run.

Taft doubled their lead in the third inning on only one hit. The Lady Wildcats started to come alive in the fourth inning highlighted by a run scoring double and Halle Neher's run scoring single.

Cesar Chavez got one of the runs back in the bottom of the fourth on a leadoff homerun over the left field fence.

Taft responded with three runs in the fifth thanks in part to three hits and a two base error.

The Lady Wildcats capped off their scoring in the seventh by having their biggest inning yet when they put up four runs. Like the fifth, Taft had three singles while scoring on a pair of errors.

Taft will look to complete another perfect league season Friday when they travel to Shafter. The game begins at 4 p.m.
