Lady Wildcats finish with 18-0 overall record

Perfect seasons are not the easiest to come by. Yet, the Taft freshmen softball team was able to accomplish that goal Friday afternoon when they shut the Shafter Generals 12-0 in the regular season finale at home.

“We just really connected and hit well today,” said Taft coach Michelle Gerry. “As a coach I am very proud of how well the team has matured this season and I am looking forward to next year and watch them all continue to get better.”

With the victory, Taft ends the season with an overall record of 18-0 overall and 8-0 in the South Sequoia League.

On the pitching side, Roslyn Maino threw a no hitter allowing two walks while striking out three batters. She finishes her season with a record of 15-0 overall and 8-0 in the South Sequoia League.

Meanwhile, Taft had a total of 20 hits and a walk on the offensive side of the ball. While Taft had the hits and Maino didn’t allow a single hit, it was the defense that ended the game when Shaylee Hartness started a double play by tagging out a runner before throwing to Rebecca Arnold at first base for the final out.

“It was an exciting way to end the season,” said Gerry.

Gerry also liked the turnout at the game and during the course of the season.

“It was great to see all the family and friends there who have helped support our team this year,” she said. “They packed the stands and were great today. I want to be sure and thank them for their support also.”
