Wildcats edge out Dos Palos by two

On a day when it was tough just to find a cool spot, the No.3 seeded Taft varsity baseball team had another thing to be concerned about for seven innings. When it was all over, the Wildcats were able to breathe a sigh of relief after defeating the No.6 seed Dos Palos Broncos 3-1 in the quarterfinal round of the CIF-CS Division IV playoffs at home Thursday afternoon.

With the victory, Taft advances to the semi final round Tuesday.

Taft did all of their scoring with two outs in the first inning starting with a bobble by the Dos Palos third baseman and a walk. The big blow came when the Broncos left fielder attempted to catch a fly ball hit by Danny Romo. The ball bounced in front of the left fielder before rolling all the way to the wall to score two runs. Romo went on to score on a single.

The Wildcats would not have another rally until the sixth inning with three straight one out singles. However, one of the runners was picked off and the final batter struck out to end the threat.

Dos Palos lone run of the game came in the top of the fourth inning with a leadoff home run.
