  • Fire destroyed a Taft Heights home Friday morning.
    The fire broke out in the attic of a single-family home at 719 A Street about 9 a.m., the Kern County Fire Department said.
    Three people were living in the home, neighbors said.
    There were no reported injuries
    The first arriving firefighters reported heavy smoke from the attic of the home Some firefighters entered the structure while others went to the roof to cut ventilation holes to vent the smoke, heat and flames
    Four engines and a ladder truck with 18 firefighters had the fire under control in about 20 minutes, but not before the fire caused about $70,000 damage to the home.
    The cause is under investigation.
