Lady Wildcats pull away in win over Fresno
After a week to relax, the No.1 seeded Taft varsity softball team opened their playoff run with a challenge on a hot Friday afternoon. The Lady Wildcats overcame that challenge by pulling away to defeat No.8 seeded Fresno 10-0 in Taft.
By winning, the Lady Wildcats advance to the semi final round where they will face the winner of the Riverdale-Washington Union game Wednesday at home.
Arizona Pilgrim broke the scoreless tie with one out in the second inning with a home run over the left field fence. Taft threatened again in the fourth inning by getting a runner to third base but the runner was stranded at second.
Taft started to put a gap between themselves and Fresno in the fourth inning when they scored three times on only two hits. The Lady Wildcats stepped up the heat in the fifth inning when they erupted for five runs while sending ten batters to the plate. The highlight of the inning was Josey Burke's two run home run over the left field fence.
Despite the outbreak of runs, the game kept going since Taft did not get the ten run rule. That changed when Caitlyn Emberson hit the second pitch she saw over the left field fence to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning.
While Taft was able to score runs, the closest Fresno got was a runner to second in the second and third innings.
