Michael Koontz will be sentenced on July 1
A Taft man arrested a month ago on burglary charges by Kern County Sheriff's deputies has agreed to a plea deal with prosecutors.
Michael Thomas Koontz entered a no contest plea to one count of burglary in Kern County Superior Court on Tuesday and charges of vandalism and possession of stolen property were dismissed.
Koontz, 42, is scheduled to be sentenced on July 1.
He is being held without bail.
Koontz was arrested by Kern County Sheriff's deputies on April 30.
The deputies ere investigating thefts in the Taft area and deputies developed information that Koontz was “identified as being inside or near three of these residences,” Sgt. Marc Haiungs said.
Deputies conducted a probation search and “numerous items of stolen property were recovered and returned to their owners,” Haiungs said.
