Three Maricopa men arrested, and it was all over 21 lemons

Three men ended up with a sour taste in their mouths after they were arrested for stealing lemons from an orchard east of Maricopa, the Kern County Sheriff reported.

The suspects now face theft and conspiracy charges, all over 21 lemons valued at $5.25.

Sgt. Marc Haiungs said deputies from the Taft substation were dispatched to a Paramount Farms lemon grove where several private security guards had apparently detained two suspects, identified as Eduardo Castro, 34, and Juan Gonzalez, 42, both of Maricopa.

Both men were apparently picking lemons where they were detained, and deputies recovered the lemons.

Further investigation led to the arrest of Efrain Casillas, 37 of Maricopa, who is accused of conspiring with the other suspects.
All three were booked into the Taft jail.

All 21 lemons were returned to Paramount Farms.
