Suspect was driving a stolen car, KCSO says, and is charged with possession of meth and other counts
A Derby Acres man was booked on several felonies after detectives from the Kern County Sheriff's Office Rural Crime Investigation Unit conducted a probation search at 23314 Cloud Avenue in Derby Acres.
According to a news release from the KCSO, on June 27 at about 11 a.m, detectives made contact with a man, later identified as Richard Smith, 28, driving a 2001 Honda CRV.
The vehicle was later determined to be stolen out of Anaheim, with a reported stolen license plate attached to the rear.
During a search of the vehicle, the news release said, detectives located suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Smith was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property, possession of methamphetamine and possession of narcotics paraphernalia. Smith was transported and booked into the Taft Jail.
