Services will be held at July 10 at West Side Cemetery
Longtime Westside resident Don Metheny passed away Monday June 30th, 2014. That day the world lost a great man and the country lost a great American. A few paragraphs could not even begin to describe the amazing, adventurous life dad lived.
Born in Terra Alta, West Virginia he enlisted in the military at a young age, piloting a B17 in World War 2 and achieving the rank of Captain. For his service he was awarded a Silver Star, Bronze Star and a Purple Heart, among various other decorations. He also served in the Korean War.
Upon coming to Taft he worked in our oil fields for many years. He was a hardworking man who never stayed idle. He was always active within the community and a longtime member of the Moose Lodge. Dad was an incredible musician and loved to jam. Bass, fiddle and always a cowboy hat. Dad enjoyed the outdoors and loved his many pets, especially his dogs.
He leaves behind a long list of loving family and a lot of great friends. He is preceded in death by his wife Marian, whom he loved very much.
Services will be held at 12:00 Thursday July 10th at West Side Cemetery. Reception at the Moose Lodge to follow.
You will be missed tremendously; as a dad, a friend and a person. Thanks for the memories. I love you Pop.
