  • A Taft man linked to three burglaries while on probation for a prior conviction was sentenced to four years in jail on Tuesday.
Michael Koontz, 42, was arrested by Kern County Sheriff's deputies from the Taft substation on April 30 after a two-week investigation.
On June 3, Koontz agreed to a plea deal. In exchange for a no contest plea to one felony burglary count, charges of vandalism and possession of stolen property were dismissed.
On Tuesday, Koontz was sentenced to 4 years in Wasco State Prison and fined $380.
He was given credit for 125 days time served (63 days actual time, 62 days good time).
Sgt. Marc Haiungs said deputies developed information that Koontz may have been involved in three burglaries in the Taft area.
“Koontz was identified as being inside or near three of these residences and after a probation search of his residence, numerous items of stolen property were recovered and returned to their owners,” Haiungs said.
