Team erupts for nine runs in the fourth inning

The Taft 10-11 year olds all star team climbed to the top of the mountain Wednesday when they pulled away in the fourth inning to defeat Delano 12-2 in the District 61 championship game in Taft.

Taft started to show signs of breaking through in the top half of the first inning with J.D. Hall's leadoff single and Reese Hammons' run scoring triple.

Corbin Yaws helped pick up the pace in the second inning with a leadoff double. After a groundout and a walk, Kyler Miles hit a two run double.

Delano bounced back in the third inning thanks to a pair of errors and a groundout.

Taft countered in the top of the fourth inning by putting up nine runs while sending 12 batters to the plate. Seven out of the first nine batters that came up in the inning had a hit. Miles highlighted the run with a two run doubled while Paige Wilkerson followed with a run scoring double. Chad Berry capped out the outburst with a two run single.

The game was called after the top of the fourth due to the 10-run mercy rule.

This is not the end of the run for Taft. They will be advancing to the next level. More details to come.
