Victim was riding alone when he crashed Monday

The motorcyclist found dead in the mountains near Valley Vista Campground Wednesday has been identified as a Bakersfield pastor

David Stepp, 61, had been missing since Monday.

He was riding his motorcycle on Cerro Noroeste Road when he apparently lost control and went down a steep embankment.

Stepp was riding alone at the time and the crash site was not immediately visible from the roadway.

Family members found him on Wednesday morning.

The crash occurred just west of Valley Vista and just inside the Ventura County line.

It is about 10 miles east of the intersection of Cerro Noroeste and Highway 33.

Stepp's church announced the tragedy Wednesday on its Facebook page.

"It's with great sadness and heavy hearts that the Pastoral staff of Bakersfield Christian Church announce the passing of our Founding and Senior Pastor, Rev. David Stepp," BCC Facebook page message said. "We ask that the congregation, family and friends of our beloved Pastor to keep his wife, Pastor Letty Stepp and family in your prayers."
