  • The Taft man accused of having sex with a 14-year-old girl was ordered to stand trial after a preliminary hearing Wednesday in Kern County Superior Court.
Baltazar Garcia Silva, 21, will be arraigned July 9 in Kern County Superior Court metro division on one felony count of unlawful intercourse with a minor.
He has pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Silva was arrested by Kern County Sheriff's deputies on June 17.
The deputies had been investigating a report of a missing juvenile when the girl returned home.
Further investigation led deputies to discover that she had been involved in a “dating relationship” with Silva after meeting him through the internet, a Kern County Sheriff's news release said.
Silva's bail is $250,000 on the unlawful intercourse charge but he is being held without bail on a hold placed by the United States Border Patrol.
