Victim was found in pool by husband
Taft Police are investigating the apparent drowning of a woman in Taft Monday night.
The victim was discovered floating in a backyard swimming pool in the 600 block of Sunset Lane about 8:30 p.m.
She was identified only as a 47-year-old woman and her name was not released.
Lt. Pete Aranda said the victim had apparently been swimming off and on and had come inside the house several times in the course of the evening before returning to the pool.
She was found when her husband went outside to smoke a cigarette and check on her floating apparently lifeless in the in-ground pool, Aranda said.
Medical aid was then summoned.
Kern County Sheriff''s deputies and Taft Police also responded.
CPR was in progress and the law enforcement officers continued it until an ambulance and firefighters arrived.
The woman was taken by ambulance to Mercy Southwest Hospital in Bakersfield but efforts to revive her failed.
