Deadline to file is Aug. 8. At least two seats up on all local boards.

 So far the Taft Union High School District Board of Trustees election is drawing the most candidates.

With the filing deadline now just over a week away, four challengers are seeking seats on the board.

Numerous local boards have two or more seats up for election in November.

The deadline to file is 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8.

It will be extended for one week if no incumbent files.

Three seats are being contested in the Taft High District.

The incumbents are Kenneth Anderson, Stan Barrett and Carl Twisselman III. None had filed by late Tuesday afternoon.

The four challengers who had filed their paperwork as of Tuesday afternoon are Jeffery Ginn, Paul Linder, Gary Morris and Julie Ortlieb.

Both Linder and Morris are former MOT directions at the school. Morris served on the board once before but resigned to become MOT director when Linder left TUHS to become MOT director for the Kern County Superintendent of Schools

Morris served on the TUHS Board before, resigning to take the MOT director job.

West Kern Community College District

None of the three incumbents up for re-election have filed their paperwork yet, although all three have indicated that they will be running.

The three are Emmanuel “Manny” Campos, Dawn Cole and Michael Long. So far, no challengers have filed.

Taft City School District

The two incumbents, Les Clark and Michael McCormick, have filed to run.

So far, no challengers have filed.

West Side Health Care District

Four incumbents are up for re-election and one, Raymond Hatch, has filed paperwork.

The other incumbents are Eric Cooper, Ginny Miller and Adele Ward. Both Cooper and Miller told the Driller last week they intend to run. No challengers have filed yet.

Taft City Council

Three incumbents are up for re-election in November but so far, no one has filed. Councilmembers Randy Miller and Ron Waldrop have indicated they will be running for re-election.

Linder, who has filed for the Taft Union High School District Board, has stated he will not be running for council. So far, no challengers have filed.

West Kern Water District

Two incumbents are up for re-election and both have filed yet.

They are Barry Jameson and Scott Niblett. So far, no challengers have filed.
