  • A damaged cable has cut phone service in western Kern County early Tuesday afternoon, leaving Verizon customers in Taft with no landline service, including 911.
The Kern County Sheriff said in a 1:45 p.m. news release that a phone cable was cut, affecting customers in Taft, McFarland, and Glenville.
McFarland Police Department also has no landline phone service or 9-1-1 service. The Sheriff’s Office is currently handling emergency and non-emergency calls for service for McFarland Police Department.
Verizon is working on repairing the outage.
There have not been any cellular outages reported. Citizens in affected areas can call the Sheriff’s Office for service on cellular phones in most areas. For emergencies, call 911. For non-emergencies, call 661-861-3110. When calling 911 from a cell phone keep in mind the call taker in the communications center will not have information on the location you are calling from so that information will have to be provided by the caller.
