Jones pleads no contest to felony DUI in incident where Jacob Foust fell from truck

The driver of a truck involved in a fatal “car surfing” accident in Taft Heights in February has pleaded no contest to one count of felony drunk driving Tuesday morning in Kern County Superior Court.

Daryl Jones, 32, was driving a truck early on Feb. 9 when the victim, Jacob Foust, 24, climbed on to the roof and stood up.

Foust fell from the truck as it went through a dip at an intersection and was fatally injured.

Jones, 32, was arrested at the scene and charged with vehicular manslaughter and felony DUI.
The manslaughter charge was dismissed as part of a plea agreement.

The details of the agreement were not made public.

Jones is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 3.

He is free on bail pending sentencing.
