  • The Fox Theater will hold two special free matinee screenings of “The Best of Times” this weekend in memory of the great comedian and actor Robin Williams.
The movie will be shown on Saturday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.
There is no admission, but donations to Alpha House or a local food bank are encouraged.
Williams, 63, was found dead in his northern California home, the victim of an apparent suicide.
He was battling depression, his family said.
The Best of Times fictionalized high school football rivalry between Taft and Bakersfield, was shot in Taft in 1985 and released the next year.
Williams played Jack Dundee, who had not been able to live down dropping a key pass in a game between “Midway High” and Bakersfield and wanted a chance to Redeem himself.
Along with his former quarterback (Reno Hightower) played by Kurt Russell, he helped arrange a rematch of the fateful game and found redemption.
For legal reasons, Taft High was changed to Midway High and the Wildcats were changed to the Rockets.
The movie also starred Pamela Reed as Gigi Hightower and Holly Palance as Elly Dundee and used numerous local residents as extras.
