  • California Highway Patrol investigators arrested Ronald Marshall Jr. Tuesday afternoon on second degree murder and other charges stemming from a January 25 motorcycle crash that killed a Bakersfield man.
The CHP's Investigative Services unit, the Kern County Auto Theft Task Force and agents from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation took Marshall into custody at 4:35 p.m. on the 3400 block of Patton Way in northwest Bakersfield.
Marshall was being sought on a $750,000 warrant in connection with the accident that killed Christopher Dross, 29, of Bakersfield on Highway 119 just north of Midway Road.
Marshall is also charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, drunk driving causing death or great bodily injury, hit and run causing injury or death and driving on a suspended license.
He is being held in Kern County Jail on $750,000 bail, the CHP said.
Marshall escaped serious injury in the late-night crash that killed Dross, his passenger on the motorcycle.
The CHP said Marshall was driving a 1991 Suzuki GSXR 750 westbound east of Midway Road when the motorcycle veered into the metal guard rail on a curve.
Marshall is accused of fleeing the scene after the accident.
He returned a short time later, investigators said.
He was detained at the scene and questioned, then booked on murder and DUI charges.
He was later released pending further investigation.
Marshall is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday in Kern County Superior Court.
