  • Incumbent Taft City Councilmember Ron Waldrop, who last week filed for re-election, has had his paperwork for reelection rejected because three of the signatures were invalid.
That  means his name will not appear on the November ballot  but he will seek reelection as a write-in candidate, he told the Taft Midway Driller.
The top three vote-getters in the election will win council seats.
That means the only incumbent who will have his name on the ballot in November is Councilmember Randy Miller.
Two challengers have filed for the council seats, Renee Bitzer-Hill and Josh Bryant.
The paperwork for the three is qualified, the City Hall spokesperson said.
Another incumbent Taft councilmember, Paul Linder, is not seeking reelection and  is running for the Taft Union High School District Board.
The deadline to file was 5 p.m. on Friday. Since and incumbent did not file by the deadline, challengers in that race were given until 5 p.m. on Wednesday to turn in paperwork.
