Bryant was booked into jail at 4:52 a.m. Wednesday. School Board to hold special meeting Thursday
Ron Bryant, the superintendent of the Taft City School District, was arrested for drunk driving early Wednesday, district officials confirmed.
The TSCSD Board of Education scheduled a special meeting to discuss Bryant's future with the district for Thursday at 2 p.m.
The meeting will be held in closed session, and the only item is “Closed session to discuss public employment – job title: Superintendent; public employee discipline/dismissal/release.”
Bryant, 42, booked at the Kern County Sheriff's central receiving facility in Bakersfield at 4:52 a.m., jail records show.
It is Bryant's second DUI arrest in less than a year.
Kern County Superior Court records show Bryant was arrested on Oct. 10, 2013 for DUI and pleaded no contest to one misdemeanor count on March 3 of this year.
He was sentenced to one day time served, fined $1940 and placed on 3 years summary probation. No court appearance has been set for this latest arrest but jail records show it will be in Shafter-Wasco branch of Kern County Superior Court.
Mike McCormick, vice president of the Board of Education, sent a memo to district employees earlier today.
“The Taft City School District received word today that our Superintendent was arrested for driving under the influence while off duty, “ McCormick wrote. “We do take conduct of this nature very seriously; however, at this time we do not have information concerning the circumstances surrounding the arrest. Since this is a confidential personnel matter and involves the early stages of the legal process, it would not be appropriate for the Board to make further statements at this time. The District will continue to stay abreast of the developments and will cooperate fully with law enforcement as necessary in any investigation.”
