A graveside funeral service will be held in the West Side District Cemetery on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. for Jeannie Lou (English) Cawelti, 77. Jeannie was born on July 26, 1939 in Scotland, Arkansas and passed away on December 24, 2016. She attended school in Arkansas and Buttonwillow and graduated from Taft High School with the class of 1957. After marrying and starting a family, she attended Taft College and graduated with a double major in English and Biology and later pursued nursing at Bakersfield College. Nearly 60 years ago, in August of 1957, she married Harold David Cawelti, Jr. Together they had five children. Jeannie was outgoing, had quite a sense of humor and a very distinguished laugh. She had a heart for helping others and fought fiercely for what she believed in. She was never shy about sharing her thoughts. She was loved by all and had many lifelong friends. After retiring, she and her husband enjoyed square dancing, traveling and camping with the Traveling Gypsies. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and LaVonne English; a brother, James English; her in-laws, Harold and Marjorie Cawelti; and in November of 1966, a daughter, Kimberly Jo. She will be deeply missed by her husband of nearly sixty years, David Cawelti; sons, Ken Cawelti (Jan) and Keith Cawelti; daughters, Kathy Cawelti (Jim Buddell), and Kristy Cawelti Edwards (Steve); grandchildren, Jayson Cawelti (Kayla), Robert Billyard (Chandelle), Joshua Fischer (Sherri), Laice Edwards Cash (Eriq), Mekala, Siddney, Cooper Edwards, and Channing O’dell; great-grandchildren, Xavier Sipe, Ali Fischer, Bentley and Tyler Cash, and Samantha Philips; also nieces, nephews and an aunt.
