Five Taft High musicians selected for Kern County Honor Band
Five Taft High Union School band students have been selected by a panel of Kern High School District music teachers to perform in the Kern County honor band and orchestra. The students will rehearse in Bakersfield on Saturdays in January and perform at a public concert 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, at the Rabobank arena. The audition was open to all high school band and orchestra students.
Sophomore Dennis Posey will be second chair out of three in percussion in the orchestra. Last year, as a freshman, Posey, son of band director Amanda Posey, was third chair percussion.
Making the honor band were: freshman Ricky Posey, second chair tuba, out of five (also Posey’s son); sophomore Tanner Ashmore, third chair percussion out of seven; senior Hailee Lopez, fifth chair trombone out of eight; and sophomore Luis Moncada, seventh chair trumpet out of 11.
“Being a member of honor band and orchestra is a great experience for the students.” Amanda Posey said. “They get to perform with other musicians their age, the music is always challenging and the conductors are top notch. The experience of an audition is very similar to a job interview and will give them skills they can use throughout their entire lives.”
