CHP says victim was trying to pass
A man was fatally injured in a motorcycle crash on Highway 33 north of Taft Thursday afternoon.
The victim is a 48-year-old man whose name has not been released.
California Highway Patrol officer Adam Taylor said the man was southbound on Highway 33 just south of Henry Road about 4 p.m. when he came up on a line of trucks that had slowed.
As he tried to pass, one of the trucks started a left turn into Cooper's Petroleum and the motorcycle veered to the left, into the parking lot.
The motorcycle crashed through one locked gate on chain link fence, carrying the fence for a distance before it hit a second fence and came to rest.
Firefighters and paramedics performed CPR on the victim.
He was transported to Mercy Southwest Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
