Faye Ekdahl was driving car that slid off Westside Parkway and into water
The Kern County Coroner confirmed the identity of the woman killed when her car plunged into a canal in northwest Bakersfield.
She was Faye Ekdahl, 69, a former long time Taft resident.
Ekhdal's SUV plunged off Coffee road near the Westside Parkway Monday morning.
The Bakersfield Fire Department said a witness saw Ekdahl driving east on the Westside Parkway shortly before 7:30 a.m. Monday when it took the Coffee Road exit, left the roadway and went down an embankment and through two fences befofre plunging into the Arvin-Edison Water Storage District Canal
An immediate search was launched and divers from the Kern County Search and Rescue Team checked the canal and a concrete syphon under the Kern River.
Ekdahl's car was finally located Tuesday about noon several hundred yards downstream from where the search started.
