The Yreka High varsity girls basketball team earned a 54-49 Northern Athletic League victory at home against West Valley Tuesday night.
YHS led 13-10 after the first quarter and trailed 31-27 at the half.
The Miner girls roared back in the third quarter and led 43-39. YHS led by as much as 10 in the fourth quarter before the Eagles were able to cut the lead to 52-49 with 1:27 left in the fourth. Ashley Cox made two free throws with 12 seconds left to seal the win.
Yreka improved to 5-4 in the NAL and 14-11 overall. West Valley fell to 4-5 in the NAL and 14-11 overall. The Eagles had downed the Miners in NAL action 45-39 on Jan. 24.
Nichelle Laffoon led Yreka scorers with 21 points.  Clara Jochim finished with 10 points. Terra Crawford put up eight points, while Ashley Cox finished with six points. Yreka ends the regular season at home Friday against Lassen High. The game begins at 6 p.m.
