Five people were injured in a head-on crash Monday on Reserve Road west of Skyline Road.
The two drivers suffered the worst injuries and three other men suffered less serious injuries.
All of the victims were from Bakersfield, the California Highway Patrol said.
The CHP said the accident occurred about 6:30 a.m. when a Ford truck being driven westbound on Reserve Road by Luis Mooney, 22, went over into the east bound lanes and collided with a westbound Chevrolet truck driven by Brent D. Pierson, 27, of Bakersfield.
Mooney's vehicle was driving at “a high rate of speed,” the CHP said in a news release
Both drivers suffered major injuries. They were both trapped in the wreckage of their trucks and had to be extricated by firefighters.
Mooney was airlifted to Kern Medical Center by a Hall Ambulance medivac helicopter.
Pierson went by grand ambulance.
A passenger in Pierson's truck, Curtis Donahoe, 50, suffered minor injuries.
Two passengers in Mooney's truck, Ruben Ibarra, 30, and Mark Stewart, 33,  suffered minor to moderate injuries.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
