Motorcyclist critically injured Monday night in downtown crash

 A motorcyclist was critically injured just after 8 p.m. Monday night when he collided with a sport utility vehicle at Eighth and Kern Street.
Firefighters and paramedics treated the  male victim at the scene before he was rushed to Kern Medical Center.
The driver of the SUV was apparently uninjured.
Taft Police Sgt. Pete Aranda said the  motorcyclist was eastbound on Kern and the other vehicle was making as left turn from northbound Eighth Street to westbound Kern Street.
The names of the people were not immediately available.
