The Kern Veteran’s Memorial Foundation (KVMF) is inviting Kern County residents to attend the unveiling of the “Wall of Valor” on Saturday.
The Wall of Valor is located in the memorial at Truxtun and S streets in downtown Bakersfield.
That includes the people of Taft, whose May 6  event  collected $10,000 for the memorial  and topped off the fundraising.
A color guard and parade of military services, school bands, and Boy Scouts will begin 9:30 a.m. from the corner of L and Truxtun Streets. The parade will proceed down Truxtun to S Street, where the colors will be posted at the Kern County Veteran’s Memorial Site at 10 a.m.
From 10 a.m. until noon, Event Host George Martin and Master of Ceremonies Don Clark will  host a program that will include distinguished speakers and patriotic music by the United States Navy Band and the Frontier High School Chamber Singers.
Concluding the program will be the “Reading of the Names” by members of the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
The program is designed to be an inspirational tribute to Kern County’s Fallen Heroes.
Kern Veterans Memorial Plaza---Phase II, The Wall of Valor--- has been designed to give Kern County's fallen heroes the  gratitude and perpetual honor they deserve.
The Wall of Valor will consist of eight large glass panels etched with the names of all of 1,010 service members from Kern County who were killed in action (KIA) since World War I. These honored names came from every city and town in Kern County to serve in America’s Armed Forces to protect the freedoms we enjoy today. The engraved glass panels honoring  the men and womern will forever commemorative their bravery and sacrifice.
The Memorial is already a county-wide focal point of patriotic pride.
Once completed with the Wall of Valor, it will be a sacred place of healing for those who have lost loved ones in the fight for freedom.
The Memorial will also be a powerful symbol to all generations of the sacrifice of the fallen heroes that have given us the freedom to prosper, preach, pray, teach, publish, petition, play, protest, assemble, govern, travel, learn, invent, explore, and live our lives on our own terms.
The Kern Veteran’s Memorial Foundation is inviting all the people of Kern County who can attend to be present for the unveiling ceremony.
