The Oil Workers Monument committee unanimously selected Benjamin Victor, a man born in Taft and raised in Bakersfield, to construct a monument the committee plans to complete in time for the city’s 100th birthday in October 2010.
The vote was held Wednesday night and the formal announcement will come at a press conference to be held on Thursday.
Victor’s design, detailed figures, enthusiasm for the project and his price impressed the members of the committee, who viewed proposals from Victor and two others last week before making the decision.
