Little relief in sight as 100-degree plus temperatures expected through the weekend

Taft is under an excessive heat warming for much of the week as temperatures are expected to climb to near 110 degrees through Thursday at least.

While temperatures may lower slightly, triple-digit heat is expected to remain through Sunday at least.
The area is under an excessive heat warning that started Sunday afternoon and will continue through Thursday night.

Afternoon high are expected to be near 108 right through Thursday before dropping on slightly on Friday to 106 to 103 on Saturday and 101 on Sunday.

Overnight lows will stay in the low to mid 80s.

A Kern County cooling center in Taft is scheduled to be open Monday and Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Veterans Building at 218 Taylor Street.

Maricopa's cooling center, located in Gusher Hall, is scheduled to open on Tuesday.
