No injuries reported in early morning fire at Ford City trailer park

A woman and four children escaped from a fire that destroyed a mobile home early Wednesday.

The fire broke out about 4:30 a.m. in a trailer park in the 100 block of Taylor Street.

Firefighters found the 50-foot single-wide trailer engulfed in flames when they arrived but the occupants had already escaped, said Kern County Fire Battalion Chief Danny Thompson.

None of the victims were injured, but an ambulance was called as a precaution to check them out.

The cause appears to be accidental.

"We're still investigating it but its possible a window air conditioning unit started it," Thompson said

The mobile home and its contents were a total loss.

The American Red Cross was called to aid the victims.
