Thirteen-year-old suffers major injuries

A 13-year old Taft boy riding a scooter suffered major injuries when he collided with a car at a South Taft intersection Saturday evening.

The injured teen was airlifted to a Bakersfield hospital following the crash.

The California Highway Patrol said the boy was riding his scooter eastbound on Crystal going through the intersection with Olive Avenue just after 8 p.m. and failed to stop at a posted stop sign.

He collided with the side of a Chevy Lumina sedan driven by Brisa Delma Alvarezmota, 21, of Taft.

He was not wearing a helmet and suffered major injuries in the accident, the CHP said.
He was treated at the scene by Kern County firefighters and Hall Ambulance paramedics then transported to Taft Airport where he was transferred to a helicopter for the flight to Kern Medical.
