He was a Bakersfield resident

The Kern County Coroner identified the drowning victim at Buena Vista Lake from last week as a Bakersfield man.

Navdeep Singh Dhillon, 23, died in Lake Webb Thursday afternoon and an autopsy performed this week confirmed that he was the victim of a drowning, the Coroner said Tuesday morning.

Dhillon, who couldn't swim, according to the Kern County Sheriff, was at the lake with family members when he went into the water without a life jacket.

At some, point, about 20 feet off shore, Dhillon went under water and disappeared about 2:40 p.m.

Witnesses attempted to locate him but were unable to, the Coroner said. His body was located several hours later, at 6:50 p.m, by KCSO Search and Rescue divers.
