Honda, GMC collide near Buttonwillow
BUTTONWILLOW -- One driver was killed but a second escaped with only minor in juries in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 58 just west of here Wednesday evening.
The victim is a 38-year-old Buttonwillow man whose name has not been released by the Kern County Coroner.
The California Highway Patrol said he was driving westbound on the highway east of Lokern Road when he allowed his 2000 Honda to drift off the roadway as he entered a curve.
He reacted by turning the vehicle to the left, the CHP said, and the car rotated and drifted across the center line into the path of an eastbound 2013 GMC driven by Brandon Olge, 46, of Bakersfield.
Olge tried to avoid a collision by braking and turning to the right, the CHP said, but the Honda slid into the path of the GMC and was struck on the passenger side.
The Buttonwillow man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Olge said he would seek his own treatment.
